Summer Reading Challenge, Read to the Beat!

Taking place across all 43 of North Yorkshire's libraries, the challenge invites children to read six library books of their choice over the summer holidays, collecting stickers and prizes along the way. Those who complete it will be rewarded with a medal and certificate to celebrate their achievement.

The Summer Reading Challenge is fun and accessible way for families to visit their local library get involved in the National Year of Reading and for children to enjoy books on their own terms. If you're into it read into it - Whether it’s fiction or non-fiction or books on K-Pop, football or gaming.

Hundreds of often free activities will be taking place across the county in libraries with a range of local musical partners across the summer holidays where children can try making music for themselves, including rap, dancing, singing, and much much more.

Reaching over 8000 children across the county in 2025, the challenge helped start more than 2000 new library memberships and contributed to 138,000 books being read and logged over the summer.
