As part of the national celebrations to mark the 80th Anniversary of VE Day, which marked the end of the Second World War in Europe on 8th May 1945, the Parish Council have arranged for the Sleights Beacon to be lit.

This will take place at 9:30 p.m. on 8th May and will join beacons and lamps being lit across the country in a co-ordinated act of remembrance.

At the same time as the beacon is lit, a member of the Parish Council will read out the VE Day Tribute. This is a set of words to assist in the act of celebration and remembrance and will be spoken at the same time at all the beacons being lit across the country.

The Beacon is sited on the edge of Sleights Moor and can be accessed on foot via a path from the Blue Bank Car Parks or by a path from Fair Head Lane. No vehicles are allowed nearer than Blue Bank Car Park or Fair Head Lane as the Beacon is on private estate moorland.

As stated above the Beacon will be lit at 9:30p.m. to coincide with other beacons all over the country.
